Cause: Killed at battle of Chickamauga (Union Army) Note: Eli H. Dowell of Newton, Illinois enlisted as a Private in the 38th Illinois Infantry, Co. K during the Civil War. He was mustered on 17 August 1861. He was killed on 19 September 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga. His parents recieved a pension--NARA Publication #T289--Pension of Eli H. Dowell: 26 Dec 1877 (application #234711) & June 28 1888 (application #242138; certificate #211440) Application lists relatives as Father: George Dowell, Jennette Dowell. Eli H. Dowell of Newton, Illinois enlisted as a Private in the 38th Illinois Infantry, Co. K during the Civil War. He was mustered on 17 August 1861.
