What does FAQ stand for?

FAQ or Frequently Asked Questions, is an acronym commonly used in software user interfaces.


How do I contribute to this site?

The straight forward method is to register from the link on the login panel, activate your account from the automatically generated email, and have at it. Unfortunately, due to the high levels of splogging and spamming that has become so common, the best approach would be to contact me directly through the contact link at the bottom left-hand corner of the page so that I can work with you to get set up. That would eliminate any insincere requests.


How do I add or update information on an individual?

There are multiple ways to do just about everything you can conceive of to the data on this site. Firstly, only registered contributors are able to edit anything at all on the site, and to register, simply fill in the input fields from the register panel accessed from the register link in the login panel. Once you've been activated, you will be assigned a role which determines at what level you can edit.

The simplest means of adding or updating an individual is through the interactive tree which can be found in the main menu under view > charts > interactive tree. Just click on an individual which will invoke available options. Adding or updating will occur in the subsequent pop-up panels. Enter the data into the input fields and press save or cancel, making sure to resolve all open pop-up panels. Once adds/edit have occurred, they will hold in queue until reviewed and accepted by a site administrator.


What do I do if I realized I made a mistake entering data?

First of all, don't panic. Simply stop what you're doing and attempt to mentally "wrap your arms around the situation" by accessing the scope of the mistake - i.e. does it involve an individual, a family, an association? If your role allows you to, you can go to the review updates section and reject the known errors. If you don't have authorization or if you're not comfortable proceeding, contact me through the site messaging function or via email link in the bottom left corner of the main page or your "my page",


How do I configure an RSS or Atom feed from my webtrees site?

Good question!  The webtrees open source software currently has no feed functionality and doesn't seem have it in the road map - at least in the near future.


How do I integrate my genealogy blog into webtrees?

Currently, you can setup a news or html block for that purpose. Also, as WordPress becomes increasingly popular as a blogging platform as well as a complete content management system (CMS), an interface built into webtrees core is on the roadmap for future releases.
